The Alfred E. Mann Foundation for Biomedical Engineering
The Alfred E. Mann Foundation for Biomedical Engineering (AEMFBE) is a philanthropic organization that establishes university-based product development institutes, called Alfred Mann Institutes (AMIs) to expedite the delivery of compelling biomedical technology to patients more rapidly. The AEMFBE is overseen by President and CEO A. Stephen Dahms, Ph.D. and is headquartered in the 167 acre Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia, California, which is about 30 minutes north of UCLA.
The AEMFBE is an umbrella organization that manages the Site Selection Committee to identify potential university partners for (AMIs) and engages the university in mutually determining an AMI fit.
The AEMFBE supports the AMIs with market analysis and due diligence, regulatory and reimbursement guidance, cost of goods analysis and other product development activities required to expedite technologies from development to commercialization.
The AEMFBE also appoints 50% of the Board of Directors to each university based AMI. The 50% AEMFBE appointed Board of Directors work jointly with the university 50% appointed Board members to govern each university based AMI. The AEMFBE also provides services that assist the AMIs and their Boards of Directors in the selection and oversight of development programs and operations.
